The six Cs you need to successfully start up a new business are:

  • Creativity
  • Common sense
  • Courage
  • Commitment/resilience
  • adaptability to Change
  • Communication.

I will be dealing with each of the six Cs in a separate article.  The first C is:

Creativity

If you want to create and run your own business, you need to be creative.

The more original your ideas and business, the more creative you need to be.

You need to think of different options for what your business is going to be, what you are going to do and how you’re going to do it.

You need creative colleagues with whom you can bounce your ideas around, and so find new and creative ways of doing things.

You need to think about ideas for your business name, logo and other aspects of what will become your business’s brand. Talk about these ideas with your colleagues, each of whom will have a different slant on things.

You then need to decide on the best name, logo, brand and approach for your business.

Then, once your business is up and running, you have to continue to be creative. To creatively deal with problems as they arise. To continually tweak your brand and approach, to keep it relevant to your business needs. To find innovative ways to increase your client base. To come up with new and exciting ideas for exploring gaps in the market or new niche markets. To be open to even tweaking your business name or logo as your business grows and changes.

So, be creative and stay creative to create a successful business.

Stay posted for my next article, on the ‘second C’ of starting up a business: Common sense.
