YOU ARE YOUR MOST IMPORTANT ASSET! Or seeing self care as asset management.

Loading

I know, you are probably sick of hearing about self care and managing your mental health! But did you know you used to do it automatically without thinking about it? Going out with friends for a drink, coffee or meal. Having a weekend away or at least a weekend off. Hanging out at the shops. Going to a concert/gig or the cinema. These can all be self care activities. But when we are not allowed to do those things, is it any wonder we miss it?! So until we can return to these social/self care activities we may need to be more intentional about boosting our mental health. You can probably think of some ideas yourself, but here are some more asset management suggestions:

  1. Call a friend (not text a friend). Remember having a chat with a friend helps them too, not just you!
  2. Exercise has been scientifically proven to boost your mood- sure you may not feel like going out for a walk, but you will benefit if you do it anyway! Or find the kind of exercise you like on YouTube.
  3. Sit and do nothing for a minute! Take some deep breaths, calm the nerves and then make a calmer choice of what to do next.
  4. Write in a notebook: rant at the government, write out those words you would never say to someone in person, write about how you are feeling, or list all the things you want to do when we regain our freedom. If you are concerned someone may read it, then recycle or burn it afterwards.
  5. Make the last 3o minutes before bed screen free.
  6. If you must binge watch tv, then try active binging: that is, break between each episode for at least 20 minutes and do something physical like chores, a short walk or dance to your fav music!
