Circuit Breaker Action: Victorian Government’s Business Support Package

Victoria’s business community has been greatly impacted by the global pandemic.

To help businesses manage this impact, the Victorian Government has announced a further $143 million package to support eligible businesses impacted by the circuit breaker action to limit the spread of COVID-19. Visit the Business Victoria website for the most up to date information on this support package.

There are four initiatives available for eligible businesses as part of this support package:

Business Costs Assistance Program

The new Business Costs Assistance Program helps eligible businesses with costs incurred as a result of the circuit breaker action.

For example, businesses may have incurred costs through loss of perishable food or produce and cancelled bookings.

Eligible businesses with an annual payroll of up to $3 million can receive a one-off grant of $2000, whether they have employees or not.

Licensed Hospitality Venue Fund – Circuit Breaker Action Payment

Eligible businesses who received a grant through the Licensed Hospitality Venue Fund will receive a further one-off payment of $3000 to help with costs incurred as a result of the circuit breaker action. Businesses that receive this payment will not be eligible to receive a grant from the Business Costs Assistance Program.

Victorian Accommodation Support Program

The new Victorian Accommodation Support Program is an expansion of the Regional Tourism Accommodation Support Program and includes tourist accommodation premises in Greater Melbourne. This will support accommodation providers whose bookings were cancelled due to the circuit breaker action to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The $16.2 million Program supports tourism accommodation providers with a grant of one of two tiers of support for those with demonstrated booking cancellations between Friday 12 February and Wednesday 17 February 2021:

  • Tier 1: Funding of $2250 (ex GST) per Accommodation Premises experiencing 10 or fewer cancelled nights.
  • Tier 2: Funding of $4500 (ex GST) per Accommodation Premises with 11 or more cancelled nights.

The Victorian Accommodation Support Program will open soon. Register your interest in this program now.

Two travel voucher schemes will encourage Victorians to travel across the state, as our tourism industry recovers from the impacts of COVID-19 and bushfires.

Living in a 24-hour news cycle, that’s predominantly COVID-19 related, it’s important to limit your exposure to news and media.

Perhaps choose specific times of day when you will get updates as too much exposure can increase feelings of fear and anxiety. Be mindful of sources of information and ensure you’re accessing good quality and accurate information from reputable and reliable sources.

Create a routine that prioritises things you enjoy and even things you have been meaning to do but haven’t had enough time. Read that book, watch that show, take up that new hobby. Try to see this time as a new and unusual period that might even have some benefits.

Ensure you do what feels right for you and don’t judge yourself by what you see others doing. It’s important to find a routine that suits your lifestyle. Make sure your daily routine is about you.

Giving to others in times of need not only helps the recipient, it enhances your wellbeing too.
Generosity doesn’t need to cost anything, it can be as simple as giving your time.
Is there a neighbour you haven’t checked in with yet? What about that friend you’ve been meaning to call? How can you help others around you?

Connection is at the heart of everything we do here at Lifeline.

When we can’t be physically close to someone it’s important we think of creative ways to stay connected with each other; a phone call, social media, email, a note in the letterbox.

If there’s someone you think may struggle through social isolation, it’s important to reach out to them and let them know you care. Never underestimate the power you have to offer hope to another person! 💙

If you’re struggling to cope, please know we’re here for you anytime of the day or night on 13 11 14. We also have Lifeline Text available nightly, 6pm – midnight (AEST) on 0477 13 11 14. Reach out and connect with us.

Although it may seem difficult to do, we need to try to see this time as unique and different, not necessarily bad, even if it’s something we didn’t necessarily choose. Follow a “calm yet cautious” approach. Ensure you’re following directives issued by the government, medical advice and observe good hygiene habits. Remember, this won’t last forever.

In saying this, we understand that at times it’s hard to keep perspective and the situation may feel overwhelming. Understand it’s okay to be struggling and it’s also okay to reach out for help. If you need support, please know we’re here for you around the clock on 13 11 14. You can also text with us nightly, 6pm – midnight (AEST) on 0477 13 11 14. Reach out and connect with us.
